Posting randomly doesn't grow a business. Follow this four-week Instagram plan to fix your profile, build content pillars, use Reels properly and turn followers into customers.
Instagram is where customers discover new brands, check your work and decide whether you look trustworthy. Many small businesses post whenever they remember, see little result and give up. A simple plan changes that. Here is a 30-day roadmap you can start today.
Week 1: Fix the foundations
Optimise your profile
- Switch to a Professional (Business) account to get insights, contact buttons and ads.
- Name field: include what you do. "Riya | Bridal Makeup Amritsar" is searchable. "Riya ✨" isn't.
- Bio: one line on who you help, one line of proof, one call to action.
- Link: point it at a WhatsApp chat, a booking page or a simple link page.
- Highlights: Services, Prices, Reviews, Work and FAQ, with consistent covers.
Define 3–4 content pillars
Pillars keep you from running out of ideas. A bakery might use: products, behind the scenes, customer moments and tips and recipes. A service business might use: results, education, process and team.
Week 2: Build a content rhythm
- 3–4 Reels a week: Reels are the main way to reach people who don't follow you yet.
- 1–2 carousels a week: great for tips, step-by-steps and before/after, and highly saveable.
- Stories daily: polls, questions, behind the scenes and reposts keep existing followers engaged.
Batch-create content in one afternoon a week using our content calendar method.
Week 3: Make Reels that get watched
- Hook in the first second: show the result first, or open with a bold statement or question.
- Keep it short and cut every pause.
- Add on-screen text, because many people watch without sound.
- Use trending audio where it fits your brand.
- End with an action: "DM 'PRICE' for rates", "Save this for later".
Week 4: Engage and convert
- Reply to every comment and DM quickly. Instagram favours accounts that start conversations.
- Spend 15 minutes a day engaging with local accounts and potential customers.
- Collaborate with complementary local businesses or creators using Collab posts.
- Use 3–8 relevant hashtags (niche and local) rather than 30 generic ones.
- Boost your best-performing organic post to a local audience with a small budget.
What to measure
Followers are nice, but track what pays the bills: profile visits, link clicks, DMs and enquiries. Check Insights every week to see which pillars and formats bring results, then make more of those.
